Bruce joins Proximagen from
Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc ("Neurocrine") the NASDAQ listed biotechnology
company. Bruce was Senior VP of Development at Neurocine and since
1998 he had overall responsibility for directing Neurocrine's selection and
advancement of drug candidates from research into clinical development.
This has culminated in advancing eight novel drugs into clinical trials for
the treatment of insomnia, depression, anxiety, brain cancer, multiple sclerosis,
type I diabetes, and endometriosis
Bruce joined Neurocrine after 27 years at Servier ( United Kingdom ), where he served as
Research and Development Director.
In this capacity, he was responsible the development
and registration of more than seven drugs and vaccines
in the United Kingdom and English speaking countries throughout the world
Bruce has been a Director and European Chairman of the Drug Information Association,
a member of the European ICH Safety Working Party and secretary of the Society for Pharmaceutical Medicine.
He is also a visiting Professor in Pharmacology at King's College London setting up and teaching BSc and MSc
courses on Drug Design and Development over the last 13 years. He has specific expertise on the practical and
regulatory aspects of clinical pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, metabolism and toxicology in new drug development and has written standard texts on these subjects and published more than 100 scientific papers.
Bruce sits on the remuneration, audit and nomination committees.
Chief Executive Officer
Kenneth Mulvany Kenneth joined Proximagen in March 2004 as
Chief Executive and acts to
focus the Company's commitment to deliver novel drugs and innovative new
treatments for neurodegenerative disease, bringing new hope to patients
and value to shareholders.
Kenneth began his career at Scripps Research Institute Department of
Immunology before joining the division for autoimmune diseases at Merck
Research Laboratories, giving him a unique perspective on the issues
involved with drug discovery from an academic research and industry
perspective.
Prior to joining Proximagen, Kenneth spent five years as managing partner
for the Strategum Group, a San Francisco-based venture capital firm focused
on the biotech and European high-tech industries. Kenneth also served on staff
at University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, as well as holding
positions at the Wistar Institute, an independent non-profit biomedical
research institute.
Kenneth also competed in the 1992 America's Cup. He brings 12 years of biotech and IPO experience to Proximagen.
Chief Scientific Officer
Professor Peter Jenner
As founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Proximagen, Peter is responsible
for scientific leadership and management of Proximagen's clinical
research and development initiatives, where he leads a
20-strong research team focused on the cause, treatment and cure of
Parkinson's disease.
Peter is also a Professor of Pharmacology in the Guy's, King's St Thomas'
School of Biomedical Sciences at King's College London. He is the head of the
Neurodegenerative Diseases Research Group and a Director of the National Parkinson
Foundation Centre of Excellence. In particular, he has contributed to
understanding mechanisms involved in the initiation and progression of nigral cell death in Parkinson's disease. He has also been responsible for
developing novel pharmacological strategies for the treatment of Parkinson's
disease and the avoidance of dyskinesia through the use of experimental
models of the illness.
Professor Jenner has published more than 600 papers in peer reviewed
journals, written in excess of 100 review articles and book chapters. He is a frequent speaker at
international congresses and to lay groups of patients and caregivers. Professor
Jenner holds a Ph.D., and Doctorate of Science from University of London as
well as a Fellowship to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
Finance Director
James Hunter Prior to Proximagen, James spent six years in corporate finance at Ernst & Young where
he worked with a number of fast-growing companies, advsing on financial strategy and
in particular on fund-raising, acquisitions and disposal of assests. James also advised
companies on performance improvement, financial restructuring and working capital
management.
Prior to joining Ernst & Young, James completed the full-time M.B.A programme at Cranfield School of Manangement, following a career in marketing communication
Non-executive Director
Nigel Whittle Nigel has over 15 years experience in the biotech industry, with Genentech, Celltech, and as Vice President of Project Management at Cantab Pharmaceuticals, responsible for overall company project development, taking a number of products into clinical trials.
Nigel graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Biochemistry, and completed a Ph.D., in cancer research at the ICRF Laboratories in
London. He received an MBA from the Judge Institute at Cambridge University.
Nigel sits on the remuneration, audit and nomination committees.
Non-executive Director
Michael Ashton
Michael joined the Board in December 2005. He has more than 30 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry having worked for Merck Inc., Pfizer Inc., Purepac Inc., and most recently, SkyePharmaplc as CEO.
